2025 Outstanding Utah Prosecutor Nomination
ELIGIBILITY:
Any government-employed prosecutor in Utah.
Any government-employed criminal appeals attorney in Utah.
CRITERIA:
Cannot have received this award in the last five (5) years.
Minimum of 5-years as a prosecutor (or a documented history of exceptional impact within a shorter period).
Accomplishments may reflect actions taken primarily in 2025 but can include exemplary work over the course of the nominee’s career as a prosecutor.
NOMINATION CRITERIA
Please provide a statement explaining why the nominee is deserving of the award detailing qualities such as, but not limited to:
ETHICS, LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONALISM
- Adheres to and exemplifies the highest ideals of our profession.
- Demonstrates integrity, resiliency, and mentorship within the office.
- Promotes civility and collaboration with defense counsel and other stakeholders.
COMMITMENT TO VICTIMS AND TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICES
- Commitment to serving and protecting victims/survivors of crime.
- Advocates for victims’ rights and safety throughout the process.
- Applies trauma-informed approaches in interviews, courtroom interactions, and case strategy.
- Maintains empathy and cultural responsiveness.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AND ENGAGEMENT
- Active involvement in community outreach, education, or prevention programs.
- Builds trust between the justice system and the public.
- Participates in initiatives that strengthen community safety and awareness.
CASES PROSECUTED
- Prosecuted the guilty without fear or favor while at the same time recognizing when mercy is warranted.
- Successfully challenging, difficult or high-impact cases (not just felony cases) with professionalism and fairness.
- Demonstrated thorough preparation and ethical decision-making.
PROGRAMS DEVELOPED AND INNOVATION
- Creates or implements new protocols, training, or tools that improve prosecutorial efficiency or victim services.
- Evidence of adoption or measurable impact on justice outcomes.
SERVICE TO FELLOW PROSECUTORS
- Provides training, guidance, or support to colleagues and law clerks.
- Contributes to statewide prosecutorial excellence through UPC or similar initiatives.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Award Selection Committee will consider all nominees.
The Award Selection Committee reserves the right to select multiple recipients.
The Award Selection Committee will contact the nominee’s employer as part of the selection process.
If this nominee is not selected, the Award Selection Committee will notify the nominee they have been nominated for this award.
