A case was submitted by portal. After adding parties to the case and assigning an attorney and staff, the user tried to add a charge to the case. The system indicated that it was saved, but nothing showed up. The log file indicates that the charge was saved, but it doesn’t show on the screen.

Here is the issue, all the charges were getting tied to the witness. Here is why:

During the configuration there was much discussion about being able to add multiples of the same count (i.e. 100 counts of sheep at large or something similar). That form can only use the first party that was added to the case. Except on portal submitted cases, this is not a problem because the defendant is always added first on case initiation. In this case the witness was added first rather than the defendant.

The fix is to delete the witness then add them again. By deleting the witness, the defendant had the oldest party id and the add charge form used that. Then the charges were attached to the correct person entity.
